RELIEF TERRACOTTA PANEL by CARLA TOLOMEO . Cm. 93×93 – 2013 -

TITLE: LIBELLULE (DRAGONFLIES)

Carla Tolomeo, from Pinerolo (Piedmont), spent her childhood among horses and riders; a self-taught artist, she was almost on the verge of pleasing her father’s will, who wished for her a career as a diplomat. Married to a famous novelist, she has managed to live under his spotlight though without ever renouncing her own intellectual integrity. Based between Milan and (lately) Albisola, Carla Tolomeo is a passionate ‘business traveller’ who has lived in Paris, Moscow, London, the Philippines and Paraguay – where she painted a huge fresco in a cathedral hidden in the forest. She authored two novels and a few essays about Giacomo Casanova. Ceramic-art is the outcome of her life-long research which started with a series inspired by Borge’s ‘Bestiario’ (Bestiary) and has reached as far as Montale’s imagery. Her clear, linear technique, creates a number of variables which remain magically suspended between fantasy and reality and keeps developing under the amiable expert tutoring of the Poggi family, who have become her mentors.
