GLAZED TERRACOTTA PANEL by MILENA MILANI – cm 99×132 – 2012 -
TITLE: VERDE ELLERA (GREEN ELLERA)
Milena Milani studied in Rome, where she resided, while also spending time in Venice, Milan, Paris, Cortina d’Ampezzo and, last but not least, Albisola. She attained fame after WW II: she was a poet, a writer, a critic (some of her novels were translated in several languages; to cite one, ‘A girl named Giulio’ inspired the film which was chosen to represent Italy at the XXth Film Festival in Berlin in 1970). Initially a follower of Lucio Fontana’s Spatialism, she signed all of the Movement’s Manifestos; she held exhibitions of her so-called written paintings and written ceramics all over Italy. In July 2003, a Foundation in her own name and to the memory of Carlo Cardazzo was inaugurated in Savona. Today the Museum-Foundation ‘Milena Milani’ houses Milena Milani’s remarkable contemporary art collection she donated to her home-town. In April 2006, the town of Varazze sponsored a solo show of her life-time production.
