A figurative artist by definition, Heckelmann studied at prestigious Academy of Beaux Arts in Munich where he was an apprentice of master Thomas Zacharias. In 1978 he moved to New York, where he completed his studies and then participated in numerous contests, eventually winning the Ebersberg Art Contest in 1991. In 1992 he created a few interesting works for the Opera House of Munich and in 2000 he was the protagonist of “The world where images are”, a biographical documentary on his life and artistic experience. Since 2003 he has been a professor at the Academy of Beaux Arts in Bad Reichenhall. In June of the same year he joined the Ceramiche San Giorgio ceramic workshop where he started experimenting with clay.
